Restock Master: Restocking Mechanics and the Night Shift

A look at our first-person physics system, different supermarket sections, and after-hours ambient sound design.

When work started on Restock Master, the concept was clear: bring the satisfying feeling of restoring order to a messy store to the screen at your own pace.

After closing time, you have the supermarket to yourself. Boxes have tipped over and items are scattered across the aisles. Picking up an item, checking its packaging, bringing it to the correct shelf, and slotting it neatly into place forms the core loop of the game.

First-Person Physics System

We wanted handling items to feel direct and tactile:

  • Free Inspection: Pick up items, rotate them in your hands, inspect packaging, and choose how to place them on the shelf.
  • Natural Weight Differences: A heavy glass jar reacts differently than a light cardboard cereal box or a crinkling bag of snacks.
  • Solid Shelf Placement: We tuned placement collisions so bottles and boxes sit firmly and neatly onto metal and wooden shelves.

Distinct Store Departments

The store is divided into diverse sections, each with its own layout:

  1. Beverage Coolers: Open the glass doors, line up chilled drinks, and restock cans and bottles.
  2. Snack Stands: Fill shelves with colorful chip bags, chocolate bars, and wafers.
  3. Breakfast Aisles: Neatly align jam jars, cereal boxes, and sauces.
  4. Cleaning Supplies: Arrange everything from large detergent bottles to boxed sponges.

Sound of a Quiet Store

The after-hours supermarket has a distinct, relaxing mood supported by focused sound design:

  • The low, steady hum of commercial cooling units,
  • The gentle crinkle of snack wrappers,
  • The solid contact sounds as items meet shelves,
  • Footsteps across the polished store floor.

No Clocks, No Customers, No Stress

There is no timer running in the corner. There are no penalty deductions or demanding customers. You can take ten minutes to align a single shelf, or work through aisles at a brisk pace. It is just you and the calm satisfaction of putting a store back in order.
